Tallmadge grad wins national title

More than eight years ago, Marisa Rinaldi could be found running at full speed every which way she turned. She was a standout freshman for the Tallmadge girls soccer team and it appeared the sky was the limit for the talented midfielder.

Tallmadge resident Meredith Dutton, 39, ran a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes, 41.4 seconds to finish ninth in the female 35-to-39 age group at the Towpath 10-10 10K race June 18.

Firecracker 5K coming to area The 19th annual Hudson Firecracker 5K is scheduled to take place July 4th at Hudson Park Estates Pool Pavilion, which is located on Blue Heron Drive. Participants can run in the 5k race or the 1-mile kids run.

Taylor plays in all-star game

Josh Taylor, a 2017 Tallmadge graduate, was a member of the Maroon Team during the the Summit County-Summit-Medina County All-Star Game June 20 at Canal Park in Akron. The game ended in a 6-6 tie.

Rensel shines for Eastern Michigan

Tallmadge graduate John Rensel, a rising junior on the Eastern Michigan University baseball team, had 13 hits, including three doubles and a home run, and 14 runs batted in during the spring. The left-handed first baseman/designated hitter appeared in 31 games.

Soccer champions

The Tallmadge age 10-and-younger boys soccer team won the Greater Akron Amateur Soccer Association playoff title June 10. The boys earned a 3-2 win in the championship game after a penalty-kick shootout. Tallmadge trailed 2-0 at halftime and also rallied to win its semifinal game.

Members of the Asian Sun Martial Arts Team brought home 13 medals from their showing at the American Tae Kwon Do Union National Championships May 27 in Orlando. The team members competed in the World Class division, athletes ranging from 11 to 45 years old.

Two volleyball camps offered

Two volleyball camps are scheduled to take place June 12 to 16 at Tallmadge Middle School. The camp for grades five and six is set to take place from 1-2:30 p.m. and the camp for grades seven and eight is scheduled to take place from 3-5 p.m.
