Tallmadge resident Michael Rorar will become the city's new service director on June 19. He succeeds Bryan Esler in the post. Esler retired April 28 after 37 years service with the city, five as service director.

Rorar comes to Tallmadge from the city of Canton, where he's served as superintendent of public works for the past three years. Prior to that, he was the park director for Bath Township, eventually being promoted to assistant service director there.

"I have roughly 20 years of labor, operational and management experience in the field of parks, recreation and highway operations," Rorar says. His responsibilities have included "overseeing multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets, overseeing development and maintenance of nearly 1,000 lane miles of city streets and highways, park renovation, design and construction," he reports.

Rorar grew up in Akron Ellet and graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in conservation and forestry. He will receive an annual salary of $82,929 annually. Esler earned $82,430. per year.

"The fact that myself and my family are Tallmadge residents, I feel that it's an exciting opportunity to work for the city of Tallmadge based on my public service background," said Rora. "From what I can see, Tallmadge appears to be a well-run municipality my priority would be to continue helping move Tallmadge forward."
